We are located in South Sumatra on the Beach of Tanjung Setia which is home to the famous wave of Ujung Bocur. The area is heaven for travelling surfers with many uncrowded surf spots waiting to be explored.

Lovina Krui Surf cottages are located right on the beach of Tanjung Setia, only a 2 minute walk from the famous wave of  Ujung Bocur. This area is heaven for surfers with a world class wave right on your doorstep and many other breaks to explore only a short drive away.
We have 3 brand new environmently friendly cottages available with double or single bed options. All rooms have a fan, mosquito net and bathroom. Price of accommodation is 200,000 rupiah per person, per night which includes 3 delicious meals per day. Beer,  soft drink and snacks also available at extra cost.
The main dining area has satellite TV and internet. We have bike & car hire available to check out the many surrounding surf spots. We prioritize the comfort of our guests with friendly staff that are always ready to assist you.

Transfer to Lovina Cottages is available with pick up from the closest airport of Bandar Lampung for a cost of 800,000 rupiah, one way. Transfer from Bandar Lampung airport takes approximately 6 to 7 hours depending on weather.
The wave Ujung Bocur is located on the main beach of Tanjung Setia. The wave itself is a 250+ meter left hander that breaks from 2 to 15ft and is offshore in the dry season SE tradewinds. Ujung Bocur picks up swell from the Indian Ocean so has very consistent swell year round with April through to October the best period for wind and swell. Crowds are mellow for the length of the wave with an average of 10-15 surfers in the water during peak period. Plenty of other waves in the area only a short distance away.

Other activities in the area include Blue Marlin fishing, snorkeling, visit the local markets or check out the wildlife in the jungle of the Lampung National Park.

Lovely Waves

Karang Nyimbor ( Ujung Bocur )

This wave is an 800 meter long lefthander that wraps around the point and provides some great barrels and carving sections. It is really consistent and caters to surfers from the beginner to advanced. This wave can be ridden from 3 to 10 feet and is walking distance from the camp.

Way Jambu (Sumatran Pipeline) 

This wave is big, heavy and radical. For the experienced surfers who want a challenge, this wave is a fast gnarly down the line barrel and is for those surfers  looking to get big, heavy and epic tubes. This place can be reached in 15 minutes by  motor bike.

Mandiri 

This wave is punchy, peaky beach break that turn on when everywhere else is flat. Expect lot of peaks and the opportunity to surf without your booties. 2-6 foot and fun.

Krui left

This wave is a perfect short rampy tube ride. Best when the swell is massive everywhere else. Holds a flawless 2-4 ft.  Really fun wave suitable for beginner to advance.

Jenny’s

A really solid right hander that as great barrel section and some really challenging sections for manuveres. Holds from 3-8 foot and is a really long fun ride.

Honney Smacks

Mainly a wave for bodyboarders, a very sucky and steep, left barrel  that is quick and heavy. Holds 3-8 foot and is for the experienced surfer and bodyboarder only.

Jimmy's Right

A fantastic, heavy and brutal wave. Best surf on high tide when there is a lot of swell. Book a driver or ride amotorbike for 2 hours to get there. It is very deep barrel that holds 4-12 foot and it is for the experienced surfer only. The end section is so scary it should only be surfed on high tide. Also has a left hander for the adventurous.

Lovely Accomodation

Lovina Krui Cottages offer you three intimate cottages set on a large block of land flanked by the ocean and tropical jungle. Onsite there is also a restaurant/ lounge for meals and relaxation.

When you are surfed out – there are plenty of nearby attractions to enjoy including: 

Snorkeling – see beautiful corals, fish, turtles and other incredible marine creatures
 

 

 Blue Marlin fishing  or fishing at the river – catch dinner (for a week!)
 

 Shopping at local markets – meet some local people, great photo opportunities, try interesting fruits (like Durian or snake fruit) and the chance to pick up a bargain.

Explore Lampung National Park - here you can go trekking, cool off under gorgeous waterfalls and spot incredible jungle plants such as the world’s largest flower (Rafflesia amoldi) and the world’s tallest flower (Amorphopallus titanium) and lookout for wild animals such as monkeys and birds - and if you are lucky - elephants or rare Sumatran Tigers!

Walk the Coconut Paths – Just a few minutes’ walk from our cottages are many paths that wind through the coconut groves. Explore the tracks in the cool shade and keep an eye out for the “Kelapa Catchers” the trained monkeys that retrieve the coconuts for their owners. You can buy a fresh coconut to drink – ask for one with plenty of susu (milk).

Q: How do we get to Lovina Krui Surf Cottages?
A: First, you will need to fly to Bandar Lampung in Southern Sumatra. From there we offer a transfer service (800,000 rupiah, one way, max 4 persons). The trip takes approximately 6 to 7 hours depending on weather and the time of day/night.

Q: How do I book my stay?

Q: Do I need booties?
A:  At the local wave most people wear booties as there is a lot of coral that becomes exposed at low tide. There is a channel to paddle in and out of if you don’t like wearing them.

Q: Is there a ding repair shop?
A:  Yes, there are several places where you can repair your board if you need to. There are also some simple surf shops that sell wax, rash vests and other surf equipment.

Q: Any tips on things I should bring?
A:  Bring booties, snorkel and mask, fishing gear, camera, your favorite movies or books, long pants and shirt (for wearing after dark), hiking shoes and a good first aid kit.

Q: Is Malaria an Issue?
A: Fortunately this area is largely malaria free. However, as a precaution and for your comfort we offer you mosquito nets in your room and recommend that you cover-up/wear repellent after dark and follow your doctor’s advice.

Q: What else is there to do (apart from surfing)?
A: You won’t be bored! You can go snorkeling, blue marlin fishing, shopping at local markets, cool off under waterfalls and wildlife spotting in the beautiful Lampung National Park.

Q: What medical facilities are available?
A: Fransiska is a trained nurse with 6 year practical experience and can assist you with minor medical concerns but make sure you have a good first aid kit. While there are good doctors in the area, the local hospitals are basic and medicines can be in short supply - so we highly recommend that you take out traveler’s insurance so that you can be taken to a good hospital in the event of an emergency.

Q: Are ATMS or Money changing facilities available?
A: Most people bring enough cash for their stay. However, if you need more money you can travel 30 minutes to Krui where there is an ATM that accepts MasterCard only. If you have a Visa Card you will need to travel to Liwa, 2 ½ hour’s drive away.  There are no official money changers in the area, but if possible we will change a small amount of cash into rupiah for you.

Q: What are the communication facilities like?
A: Our cottages offer an internet service (dial-up) in the lounge area. There is also an internet service offered in Krui. You can also use your own mobile phone on global roaming (expensive) or we recommend that you purchase a local SIM card and number which is very affordable.

Q: What are the locals like?
A: The local people are mostly friendly and interested to meet you. Tourism is still a pretty new phenomenon and you generally won’t be exposed to the hassling or begging that you might experience in Bali.   While we are a Christian couple, it is a largely Muslim area and people are conservative. We recommend wearing modest dress when visiting nearby towns or public spaces.

Q: Is your food nice?
A: We understand that fantastic food makes for a fantastic holiday - and that is why we put a lot of effort into ensuring you really enjoy each meal. The price of your room includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our menu changes daily (we don’t expect you to live on Nasi Goreng here) and features both Western and Indonesian dishes. Unlike many other establishments, all meals are made to order, ensuring quality and freshness. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements – we will try our best to accommodate you.
